Here goes nothin'

Congratulations! You all get to experience my first attempt at blogging! Hopefully that doesn't scare you off and you can bear with me even if I suck at blogging. Basically, my goal with this blog is to provide a way for all of you, friends, family, housemates, and anyone else, to be able to see what I'm doing in Costa Rica. I also hope that I can count on you guys to pray for me because even though I am SUPER EXCITED about teaching in Costa Rica, I know it is going to be challenging, frustrating, exhausting, and scary at times. Anyway, here is a little bit about what I'll be doing.

I am leaving in two weeks for San Antonio, Costa Rica where I will be teaching at a private Christian bilingual school called La Palabra de Vida. LPDV is located located West of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. I will be teaching 6 periods a day (two periods of 3rd grade phonics, and four periods of 5th grade English/Spelling) starting at 6:15 every morning. Thankfully I will be arriving in Costa Rica 10 days before I actually begin teaching. Some of that time will be spent in staff training, but hopefully I will have plenty of time to get settled in, come up with some awesome lesson plans, and maybe do some exploring. (perhaps including a trip to the beach :)

LPDV follows the Cost Rican school schedule which starts in the beginning of February and ends the last week of November. Because they had a teacher leave unexpectedly, LPDV hired me to finish out the school year with them starting after their mid-year break which is the first three weeks of July. (Isn't God's timing amazing!) Since it is the middle of the year, I am only committed through December, however, they hired me with the hope that I would stay on another year. All of that is up to God and I am grateful that I will not need to make that decision until October or November. In the mean time I am busy packing, shopping, taking care of random errands, and spending time with my family. And in 15 days I will be on my way to Costa Rica!
